Hello sweetie! You noticed I changed the name riiiiight? It has been Spotlights on the Redhead for so long, but I felt like it no longer represented me appropriately. What is BadWolf and what does it mean to me though? I'm a BIG Doctor Who fan and when the storyline of the BadWolf and the Moment came to a conclusion, I kind of started using it as a nickname in every game I played. I thought this name was a good way to start merging all my passions. Now that this is out of the way, let's get to the actual subject, seasons mess up our skin.
There are many ways to balance the changes in a way that your skin has always what it needs. Most often than not your skin "shows" what the problem is, if you are not sure, you can ask your dermatologist. My skin is sensitive, combination and acne prone and that means I have tried a lot of products throughout the years. So after years of self-experimentation, I present to you my latest advice for summer time skin perfection, my 3-5 steps routine. I would like to know if you have tried any of these and of course if you have something that works better! I am always on the lookout for something even better so leave links below!
1. Sunscreen! Of course, we start with protection. There is nothing more important than protecting your skin from the sun, especially during the summer. Anthelios AC SPF 30 Matte Fluid ANTI-SHINE by La Roche-Posay stole my heart when I tried it on my hand at the pharmacist. It can act as a mattifying primer under your makeup! When it's too hot outside I prefer not to wear makeup or opt for just eye makeup, lips and bare skin but I never skip my sunscreen and you shouldn't either!
2. Exfoliate!Exterminate those dead skin cells. I have already posted about full body exfoliation (which is equally important) but this is different. While there are a lot of creams on the market I like to use a recipe of my own (well, the internet helped) that includes Argan Oil. You can find the recipe here. For variation instead of sugar, I may use the coffee scrub by Scrub Love I use on my body. I find it gentler than sugar, smells better and I get all the benefits of the actual coffee scrub. During summer I exfoliate once every week or every two weeks, depends on my acne. I try to annoy my skin as less as possible.
3. Always remove your makeup. You already know why this is important, especially if you wear a full face of makeup, I don't need to get into details. I have a whole post about this product here. It is still a favourite.
4. Wash gently. With sensitive skin and acne prone you really need to be gentle. I actually like to use the 3-step-system for acne prone skin by Clinique (get it here). I recently purchased these because I had an acne "attack" and has changed my skin. The soap can be used as a makeup remover, so the days I wear light makeup I skip the micellar water.
5. Hydrate DUH. This is the second most important step. Besides drinking a lot of water your skin will need the extra hydration a good face cream has to offer. Since it's summer and my skin is oily though I prefer using the lotion from the Clinique system most days. If your skin feels especially tight or after spending a day at the beach you can use a few drops of Argan Oil. I personally leave it on for 15minutes or so and then rinse with cold water and pat my face dry with a clean towel.
The combination of the scrub and honey and cinnamon just make me want to eat it. I have to keep reminding myself that it's not cookies. And here are some embarrassing photos of me while a wait some minutes for the oils to get absorbed by my skin.
